Thai marriage
Foreigners are allowed to marry a Thai national or another foreign national in Thailand. Marriage in Thailand is a based on Civil Law and foreigners wanting to formalize their relationship in Thailand must enter into a civil marriage. Before the marriage can take place certain documents (e.g. affidavit to marry, freedom to marry) must be obtained from the foreigner's embassy and translated and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. An officially registered marriage with the Thai authorities will be recognized as a valid marriage in most other countries.
Divorce in Thailand
If a married couple wants to divorce and formally terminate their marriage in Thailand this could be done in person based on mutual consent through simple divorce procedure at the local municipality, or, in case to couple cannot agree on the terms of the marital dissolution, this can be done through a more complicated court procedure based on the grounds given in the Civil and Commercial Code.
